Operations

Chief’s operations include three distinct divisions, liquid bulk (specifically molten sulpher and fuel), high and low-density dry bulk (aggregate materials). Each area is serviced by specially designed multi-use equipment.

For example, all tractors are equipped with the proper motors and components to navigate through challenging terrain such as high mountain roads and backcountry roadways. Tractors are equipped with onboard computers that monitor driver performance (fuel, speed, idle times, hours worked), which translates into customer benefits such as reduced operating costs and improved safety ratings.

Chief's side dump units turn almost completely over, allowing certain products to be unloaded much easier. These vehicle adaptations allow Chief to move trailers to remote areas without disruption.

Sulphur tanker

Liquid Bulk
Chief currently operates more than 60 units transporting sulphur in Alberta and British Columbia. Recent equipment additions to this division is a state-of-the-art transloader for transferring molten sulphur into rail cars, which allows improved access to remote locations and more efficient loading than previous methods.

Fuel Tankers
Chief also operates fuel tankers, providing an essential service to its liquid bulk customers.

Side dump unit

High Density Dry Bulk
Chief's side dump units are used for the transportation of dry bulk goods.

Some advantages of Chief's side dumps are:

  • Material will not flow or leak out as it could from the tailgate of an end dump unit.
  • The unit is able to unload where the ground is not level. Normal dump units can become unbalanced and often tip over if they are not on a level surface.
  • In areas of limited overhead clearance, such as mines, material can be unloaded safely. This eliminates damage to lights, power lines, overhead piping, and structural components.
  • Oversized material can be unloaded much easier; on a normal dump unit the tailgate could block the dumping or be damaged.
  • In order to ensure that all requirements are met, Chief also customizes and adapts equipment for unique situations and products.

High Production Low Density Units
Chief's custom designed high volume belly dump units are used to haul several types of industrial materials. These include petroleum coke, fly ash, bottom ash, grain, fertilizer, light weight aggregates or compost.
